It would seems silly to apologize for things I can't control such as the weather but I must say that I do feel really bad. I feel like in the last month cold weather and cold pool temps have led to freezing of our regularly scheduled practices. I am not happy with it but I do want to say thank you to all of you that are patient and continue to give your support. Without the hardcore regulars we are nothing. The pool temp today was 71. Please feel free to voice your concerns about the heating with Founders Park Management.
A few of you have expressed that you would like to meet with me to discuss setting a date for the Swim-A-Thon among other items that will hopefully secure the future of this club. I will be meeting @ 6:15pm on Wed at Founders. I am running the meeting after my evening practice to feel free to bring a snack! All of you are welcome to come.
Hopefully we are rolling through the last of our cold fronts. In no time at all we will be complaining about the summer sun. Please continue to check the website for information regarding the club. I appreciate all the support.

Mission Statement And Practice Goals
Mission Statement: The goal of our swim club is to help masters swimmers in a way that improves their skills as athletes, while promoting and encouraging their love of the sport. We hope to use swimming as a forum to help people achieve any goals they have from swimmming faster in meets to achiving better fitness levels and learning to swim.
Practice Goals: A Mantatee practice is not designed to grind out yardage, but more so to use a balance of teaching , drilling, and fast swimming to make sure the quality of the swimming, and the sport is maintained. There are times when we will not focus on how fast a swimmer is, but how that swimmer chooses to go fast. There are other times, however, when the competitive drive, and the willingness to test one's skill against others will be encouraged, and swimmers will most definitely practice swimming fast. In the end, our goal is to design a well balanced program that will take the Manatee Swim Club to the next level

Coaching Staff
HEAD COACH: Katy LeVasseur
Katy (a.k.a. Mama Manatee) moved to the Florida Keys from colorado in 2003 to further enhance her animal training career by working with dolphins. In 2009, a few months after the birth of her daughter Alice, she decided to venture over to the coaching side of Masters swimming. Katy was a Masters swimmer herself both in the Keys and in Colorado. Prior to that she swam for Lake Forest College in Illinois where she was co-captain her sophomore though senior years, and was awarded MVP her freshman through junior years. Katy also competed at NCAA Division III Nationals three of her four years in college. She achieved All American status by placing top 16 in individual evnets and relays, and top 8 in the 200 breaststroke.
Katy believes that Masters swimming is a program where adults are able to not only accomplish a variety of goals ranging from swimming for fitness reasons to competing up to the international level, but can also do so in a fun and social atmosphere. Her practices are geared toward accommodating different levels of swimmers.
